Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Although uncommon, we don’t diagnose everyone after full assessment. Sometimes we diagnose one neurotype and not the other and sometimes (rarely but it does happen), we don’t diagnose at all. We can reassure you that we discuss this with you throughout our assessments. We share our thinking as we go along and hopefully the diagnosis or non diagnosis will not come as a surprise at the end. This isn’t a test. This is a process that we go through together. Everyone comes away with a thorough insight into who they are and what has impacted their development through life, regardless of the diagnosis.

Yes! Our reports are extremely long and in depth (often 80-100 pages). If you want just a few pages to summarise things, we’re not the service for you! We see your report as something you’ll return to time and time again. “The final report is more than a report, it feels personalised and represents a guidebook for moving forward” (recent client). We spend hours and hours on each and every report so we can put words to how you’re experiencing things and why we’ve diagnosed you (or not). You pay for this amount of time, ofcourse, but if you want this level of detail and care, we might be the right service for you.

In short, because it has not been safe for them to be themselves. This can be related to family, education, community, societal factors but the messages have been ‘don’t show yourself fully, you will be rejected if you do’. Many girls and women have learned to hide themselves as a result. They have learned how to act like others to fit in in order to be accepted and stay safe. Many women reach a breaking point (often burn out, or a life transition such as university, motherhood, midlife, divorce) and start looking deeper within themselves and find they’re actually autistic. And/or they see information about autism that rings true with how they’ve thought and felt underneath the ‘mask’ all this time and decide to explore it further.
