There seems to be so much angst at the moment about autistic children and adults whose experiences, abilities and support needs look very different. I wondered how we would navigate that. Would we understand each other? Would our differences get in the way?
Sarah, who was part of the conversation, is a mum of three autistic boys. Two started speaking later than their peers, and one is non-speaking.
My experience is different. I have an autistic child who started speaking early and speaks A LOT. They are ADHD as well as autistic, and when they were young, there was little on the outside to distinguish them from their peers.
